As promised in the earlier post on this blog about this topic, I have been poking around for more material. I came across this very well written document, which many will find useful:

Note however that this document was published more than 2 years ago. I'm sure the application developer community has learnt more about various configuration choices since then. As of now, I am not aware if any such updates have been distilled, or even whether any plans for update to this document are in the works. I'll try to find more information on this, and post an update here once I know anything concrete. Stay tuned.
